2024 Breast Cancer Screening Campaign

Reminiscing two years ago of our Enkare Oltau Foundation, organizing of a successful breast cancer screening campaign for our members and community members. It was a remarkable experience seeing young people come together, pooling their skills and efforts to make a difference in our community.

The campaign was a resounding success, with over 50 girls and women screened for breast cancer. The event was a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the impact they can have on community health awareness. Many women who attended the screening expressed gratitude for the opportunity to prioritize their health, citing the high cost of breast cancer screening as a barrier they wouldn’t have overcome without our support.

Breast cancer is a growing concern in Kenya, with many women diagnosed at an advanced stage. Early detection is key to improving survival rates, but the cost of screening can be prohibitive for many. At Enkare Oltau Foundation, we’re committed to addressing this challenge head-on.

2024 Breast Cancer Screening Campaign

As a volunteer group, we’re proud of our team’s boldness in taking on this critical issue despite lacking government and international recognition. Our efforts are driven by a passion to make a difference and contribute to achieving SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.

The cost of breast cancer screening can be steep, with prices ranging from Ksh 2,000 to Ksh 10,000 or more per screening. For many women in our community, this is a significant barrier to accessing life-saving care. That’s why we’re committed to continuing our outreach efforts, partnering with like-minded organizations to make breast cancer screening more accessible and affordable.

Our campaign not only raised awareness about breast cancer but also highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives in promoting health awareness and reducing prevalence. Currently breast cancer cases are expected to doubly by 2027, with low screening uptake(13.91%). By working together, we can create a ripple effect, empowering women to take charge of their health and inspiring others to do the same.

We’re proud of our team for their dedication and commitment to this cause. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our mission to address SDG 3 and promote health awareness in our community.
