September 25th 2025 wasn’t just another day on the calendar; it was SDG Flag Day. This year’s celebration carried a heavy weight of both pride and urgency, marking a decade since the world united under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
At the Enkare Oltau Foundation, we believe that milestones are for more than just celebration—they are for calibration. With only five years left on the clock, the global community stands at a crossroads.
The Reality Check: 18% is Not Enough
While we have made undeniable strides since 2015, the statistics offer a sobering reality: only 18% of the Sustainable Development Goals are currently on track. To bridge this gap, we joined forces with the SDGs Kenya Forum for the official launch of the #RaceTo2030. This initiative is a powerful call to action, gathering civil societies, youth organizations, and dedicated champions to move beyond rhetoric and into radical implementation.

Our Commitment in Action
As an organization, our heartbeat is synchronized with four specific pillars of change. At the launch, we stood firm in our commitment to:
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): Ensuring inclusive and equitable learning for all.
- SDG 5 (Gender Equality): Empowering women and girls to lead and thrive.
- SDG 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth): Promoting sustainable livelihoods.
- SDG 13 (Climate Action): Taking urgent steps to combat environmental shifts.
We weren’t just there to occupy a seat; we were there to contribute to practical commitments. Our six attending members were vocal advocates in this transformative space, ensuring that the grassroots perspective remains at the heart of national policy discussions.
“The Race to 2030 isn’t a sprint for the few; it’s a marathon fueled by the many.”

The Power of the Volunteer
One of the most profound takeaways from the day was the undeniable role of volunteerism. We often talk about “policy” and “funding,” but it is the hands and hearts of volunteers that turn abstract goals into tangible reality. Volunteerism is the engine of the SDGs—it is how we scale impact when resources are tight and how we build community ownership of the 2030 vision.
Play Your Part
The reflection is over; the action has begun. We analyzed what works, we identified the bottlenecks, and now we move forward with harnessed energy.
The race is on. Will you be counted? Whether through your professional capacity or your personal time, every action counts toward the actualization of these goals.
