We believe in the power of volunteerism to create meaningful change, equip young people with skills, and bridge the gap between education and employment. Our mantra is simple: #HUMANIZE—putting people first in everything we do.

Humanizing Climate Action for a Resilient Tomorrow

The Heart of Sustainability

At the Enkare Oltau Foundation, our name reflects our mission: “Enkare” means water and “Oltau” means heart in Maasai. Just as water is life, we believe that protecting our planet is at the very heart of service. Our mantra, #HUMANIZE, drives us to prioritize people, and there is no greater way to put people first than by tackling the environmental challenges that threaten our shared future.

Why Climate Action Matters to Us

Climate Action (SDG 13) is one of our four core pillars. We are a youth-driven organization dedicated to sustainable development and creating a resilient tomorrow. To date, our volunteers have successfully planted over 1,200 trees as part of our commitment to environmental conservation and purity.

To help our community lead this movement, we’ve compiled 20 essential terms every climate advocate should know:

1. Sustainability: Meeting our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

2. Climate Action (SDG 13): Urgent steps to combat climate change and its impacts.

3. Resilience: The ability of a community to recover quickly from environmental difficulties.

4. Environmental Conservation: The protection and preservation of the natural world.

5. Afforestation: The process of planting trees in an area where there was no previous tree cover (a key part of our 1,200+ tree-planting milestone).

6. Climate Change: Long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, often caused by human activity.

7. Greenhouse Gases: Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere, leading to global warming.

8. Carbon Footprint: The total amount of greenhouse gases produced by our individual or organizational actions.

9. Biodiversity: The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.

10. Ecosystem: A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.

11. Renewable Energy: Energy from sources that are not depleted when used, such as solar or wind.

12. Mitigation: Actions taken to reduce or prevent the emission of greenhouse gases.

13. Adaptation: Adjustments in social, economic, or ecological systems in response to actual or expected climate stimuli.

14. Global Warming: The long-term heating of Earth’s climate system observed since the pre-industrial period.

15. Eco-friendly: Products and practices that do not harm the environment.

16. Natural Resources: Materials or substances such as minerals, forests, and water that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain.

17. Climate Justice: A term used to frame global warming as an ethical and political issue, rather than one that is purely environmental.

18. Ecological Footprint: The impact of a person or community on the environment, expressed as the amount of land required to sustain their use of natural resources.

19. Carbon Sequestration: The process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide (one of the many benefits of our tree-planting initiatives).

20. Sustainable Development: Economic development that is conducted without depletion of natural resources.
